Our Future
Blue Dolphin Alliance is one of the oldest dolphin-focused organizations on the Western Coast of the United States. Formed in 1989, we’ve followed our mission to bring people together to share information and involvement in dolphin and whale challenges, both locally and internationally.
As an affiliate of the Earth Island Institute, we work to increase awareness that many large-scale watershed and global issues affect dolphins and whales. We believe the plights of marine mammals can be viewed as an indicator of the fate of the human species.
How You Can Help
The professionals doing direct work to study, teach about, and protect dolphins and whales are incredibly underfunded.
Blue Dolphin Alliance uses profits and donations to directly fund individuals with programs working with dolphins, whales, and their related environmental issues.
These programs include research, educational programs, and hands-on work with dolphins and whales.
When you buy or donate on bluedolphin.org you are being part of the solution. Together we help these projects continue.
Where Funds Go
Past Funding
We’ve made direct donations to:
- A person who is working in the upper Amazon of Peru with one or two local species of freshwater dolphins. A contribution of $40 covered their food and gas for a summer of work.
- A person who is keeping a census of bottlenose dolphins found along the Southern Coast of California, US. A contribution of $400 helped them continue their census activities and publish the results.
Current Needs
We’re currently raising for:
- Researchers and student interns studying sea turtles of Baja, California, U.S.
- Donations to fund internships for young people to work with researchers on Santa Barbara, California Coast marine and coastal challenges.
- Sponsoring whale watching tour field trips and creating new online media for student presentations.
